MARKETING AND BUSINESS ADVICE FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS

Writing Really Good Copy…

Her are some tips for writing really good copy…

  • Write your copy to just one person… Even though hundreds or even thousands of people may read it, write your copy as if you are writing to a friend, write to them conversationally, like you would if you were talking to them.
  • Be yourself, people buy people, don’t try and develop a false persona talk to your target market in the every day language they use.
  • Get involved in the conversation already going on in your ideal clients head. Focus your content on what your target audience want to hear, not what you want to tell them!
  • Use the word YOU more than we or us…
  • The more you can talk directly to your prospects about their wants and their needs, the more successful your copy will be.

Here is a tried and tested copy formula that has stood the test of time…

ATTENTION:

You need to get their attention straight away…

The best way to grab their attention is a killer headline…

The main job of your headline is to get them to read the next line of copy, convince them you have what they want…

INTEREST:

You need to get and keep them interested…

People are busy and have very short attention spans so they will scan and skim over your copy, they aren’t going to read every word so make it easy for them…

You need to highlight the most important information and benefits for them…

Use bolded sub headings, bold important sections of text – they make the copy more scannable, and bulleted lists are a really useful way to highlight the benefits of your product or service.

Keep bullet points short, one idea per bullet point works best.

DESIRE:

Benefits NOT Features…

Emphasise the benefits of what you can do for them to create desire for your service…

  • 64gb of memory on your phone = thousands of your favourite songs in your pocket
  • A digital tuner on your car radio = a much wider choice of crystal clear radio stations.
  • And one I’m sure you will have heard before – People don’t want a quarter inch drill, they don’t even want the quarter inch hole it will make, they want their shelf on the wall!

Tell them what it will do for them make it crystal clear, don’t leave them to figure it out for themselves.

ACTION:

The best copy in the world won’t close the sale unless you ask your prospects to buy.

Closing the sale is about telling your prospect what they need to do…

If you want them to pick up the phone and call, tell them to do it and give them the number.

If you want them to go to a website, tell them where to go, and explain why they need to do it urgently.

Closing the sale isn’t difficult, just make sure there’s a sense of urgency to it, and give your prospect clear and simple instructions of what they need to do.

I hope you’ve found this useful,

So, after almost 30 years of running a very successful photography studio I've decided to launch my new coaching business, allowing me to share my knowledge and expertise to help other photographers start, grow and market their own business.

During this time I've built up a huge wealth of knowledge and experience on how to successfully, and profitably, run market and grow a photography business.
